Description
The ASX 100 index is a stock market index that tracks the performance of the 100 largest and most liquid companies listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) by market capitalisation. The index is considered a representative sample of Australia’s large and mid-cap securities. It contains the ASX 50 and the ASX MidCap 50 components. The index accounts for about 74% of Australia’s equity market as of June 2023. The ASX 100 index is calculated and maintained by S&P Dow Jones Indices, a leading provider of global index services. The index is float-adjusted, meaning that only the shares that are available for public trading are included in the calculation. The index is rebalanced quarterly, in March, June, September, and December, to reflect changes in the market composition and liquidity. The index is widely used as a reference point for Australian equity funds and ETFs.
